Getting Started with Dashboards
Open your dashboard, switch between views, make one of your own, add the widgets you actually need, and save it as the one that opens first.
This guide takes you from the dashboard you were given to one you built yourself — switching views, adding the widgets that matter to your job, arranging the grid and saving it as the one that opens first.
- Open the Portfolio Dashboard from the sidebar, or a project's Dashboard from inside a project
- Switch views from the toolbar — the button shows the view you're on
- Make one of your own — Duplicate what you're looking at, or New Dashboard for a blank one
- Add widgets — click Edit, then Add Widget, and toggle what you need
- Arrange and Save — drag, resize, then Save
- Set as Default so it opens first next time
Before You Begin
What you need
- Membership of the organisation — everyone who is a member can see the organisation's shared dashboards
- Anyone can create, edit, duplicate and delete their own dashboards
- Only an organisation admin (Project Owner or Project Manager) can change or publish a shared dashboard
Open a dashboard
Click Portfolio Dashboard in the sidebar for the view across every project. It is also where you land when you sign in and whenever you switch organisation.
For one project, open the project first, then click Dashboard in its sidebar.
Switch between views
The toolbar button on the right shows the name of the view you are on — or Select view if you're not on one yet. Click it to see every dashboard available to you, plus New Dashboard at the bottom.
Two glyphs tell you what you're looking at before you click:
- a people glyph means the view is shared with the organisation, so only an admin can change it
- a star means it is the view that opens first
Make a dashboard of your own
There are two ways, and the first is usually the better one.
Duplicate what you're already looking at. Open the actions menu — the … button beside Edit — and click Duplicate. You get a personal copy of that exact layout, and personal copies are always yours to edit even if the original was shared.
Or start blank. Open the switcher and click New Dashboard. Type a name and press Enter. The name can't be empty; nothing else is required.
Publishing one for the whole team
If you're a Project Owner or Project Manager, the switcher also offers New Shared Dashboard. A shared dashboard is visible to everyone in the organisation, and only admins can change it afterwards.
Add the widgets you need
Click Edit in the toolbar. An Editing badge appears, the grid picks up a dotted background, and three buttons replace the usual toolbar: Add Widget, Discard and Save.
Click Add Widget to open the catalogue on the right. It is grouped by module — Portfolio, Work Items, Quality & Issues, Inspections, Safety, Approvals, Materials, Manpower and Activity — with a Search widgets box across the top and a running Active: n / n count.
Click anywhere on a widget card to put it on the grid, and click it again to take it off. Each module section, and the header itself, has Add all and Remove all if you want to start wide and cut down.
A brand-new dashboard has nothing on it and says so: This dashboard has no widgets yet. The Get Started button on that empty box takes you straight into edit mode with the catalogue open.
Arrange the grid
While editing, each widget has a grab bar along its top edge and a round remove button in its top-right corner. Drag a widget by the bar to move it; drag the bottom-right corner to resize it.
KPI tiles are fixed at one cell and can't be resized. Charts and lists start at two cells wide by two tall, and many of them show more once you make them bigger.
You can do the same from the keyboard: tab to a widget, use the arrow keys to move it one cell at a time, and press Delete or Backspace to take it off the grid.
Rearrange from a full-size window
Below 768 px of browser width the grid stacks widgets to fit the screen, and moves you make there are not saved. Adding and removing widgets still works at any width. Do your arranging on a full-size window.
Save it
Click Save. The button reads Saving… while it writes, then edit mode closes.
Discard throws the changes away instead. If you have unsaved changes it asks first — Discard changes? — and you can Keep Editing. Leaving the page with unsaved changes will also make your browser warn you.
Make it the one that opens first
Open the actions menu — … — and click Set as Default. That view now carries a star in the switcher and is the one that opens when you come back.
If You Don't See a Dashboard
If the toolbar says Select view and the page reads No dashboard view selected, there is no view available to you on that screen yet. Open the switcher and click New Dashboard to make one, then add the widgets you want.
