Filing a Daily Log
How to start a log, what goes in each of the nine sections, and how photos and weather are captured.
- Daily Log → New Log (only shown if you can create logs)
- Set the Date and the Shift — day, night or swing
- Fill the nine sections. Nothing is compulsory while you are drafting
- Fetch Weather pulls the day's conditions rather than making you type them
- Save Draft — the only button on this screen. It creates the log and opens its detail page
- Everything else — editing, submitting, deleting — happens on that detail page
Starting a Log
New Log sits in the header of the register, on the My Logs tab. It only appears if your role can create daily logs.
The header card holds the two things that identify the log:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Date | Calendar popover. Defaults to today, or to the date you came from |
| Shift | day (default), night or swing |
The Project name and code are shown for confirmation and cannot be edited here. Once weather has been fetched and you have granted location permission, a Location line appears alongside them.
One log per date
Change the date and the page checks whether a log already exists for it. If one does, an amber banner appears — open the existing log instead of starting a second for the same day.
The Nine Sections
All nine are collapsible and all start expanded. Fill in what you have; you can save a half-finished draft and come back.
| Section | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Weather | High and low temperature, unit, conditions, humidity, precipitation, wind speed and unit — or press Fetch Weather |
| Manpower | One row per company on site: company, trade, headcount, hours, notes |
| Equipment | One row per machine: type, description or ID, hours used, hours idle, status, notes |
| Work Performed | One row per activity: area or zone, trade, a description, and a percentage complete |
| Delays | One row per delay: cause, hours, responsible party, description |
| Visitors | Name, company, purpose, time in, time out, badge number |
| Safety | An incident toggle and description, near-miss count, toolbox talk topic, attendees, PPE compliance notes |
| Photos | Uploaded images, each with a caption, a location and a section tag |
| Notes | One free-text box for anything the sections above do not cover |
The full field-by-field list, including the delay causes and the photo tags, is in Daily Log Fields & Statuses.
Weather
Fetch Weather in the Weather section fills the day's conditions for the project's location, so the site team does not have to. If the browser has not been given location permission, the Location line stays hidden — the rest of the fields can still be typed by hand.
Empty numeric fields stay empty. They are not recorded as zero, so an unfilled humidity reading does not become "0% humidity" in a client report.
Photos
Upload
Click Upload Photo, or the Click to upload photos area when the section is empty.
Describe each one
Each photo takes a Caption, a location (for example "Zone B, Level 3") and a Section tag — General, Work, Safety or Delay.
Save
On a brand-new log, photos are held in the browser and upload once you press Save Draft. If any fail, a toast tells you how many, and you can reopen the log and add them again. On a log that already exists, they upload as you add them.
Saving
Save Draft is the only button on the new-log screen. Pressing it creates the log and moves you to its detail page, where Submit lives. Saving needs a connection: if it drops mid-save, the log is not saved, you see an error, and the form keeps what you typed so you can save again once you have signal.
Editing an Existing Log
Open any log from the register. A draft opens in the editor with the same nine sections plus a bottom bar carrying Save Draft, Submit, and Delete if your role allows it. A submitted or approved log opens read-only.
Every save is recorded in Edit History at the bottom of the page — a timestamped entry per edit, newest first, with a badge naming each section that changed.
