Getting Started with Documents
From an empty library to filed drawings — create folders, upload files, open them, and remove what you do not need.
This walks the whole loop: set up a folder or two, upload your first files, open them, and remove one you did not mean to keep.
- Open Documents from the project sidebar
- Create folders that match how your project files paperwork
- Open the folder you want the files in before you upload — a file stays where it lands
- Click Upload, or drag files straight onto the list
- Click a file name to open it; the trash icon removes it for everyone on the project
Before You Begin
Prerequisites
- You need to be a member of the project
- Open the project first — Documents is per project, not organisation-wide
- Have the files to hand; each one can be up to 25 MB
Open Documents
In a project, click Documents in the sidebar. A brand-new library is empty, and the whole panel is a dashed target reading Drag & drop files here — clicking it opens the file picker.
Create your folder structure
Click New Folder in the toolbar, type a Folder name (up to 200 characters) and click Create. The folder appears in the rail on the left and in the list.
Build the structure the way your project already files paperwork — by discipline, by block, by document type. To nest, open a folder and click New Folder again, or use New subfolder on the folder's Options (…) menu in the rail.
Open the folder you want to file into
Click the folder in the rail, or its row in the list. The folder path across the top shows where you are — Documents › General › Structural › Drawings — and each earlier step takes you back up.
Do this before uploading. A file lands in whichever folder is open when it goes up, and it cannot be moved afterwards.
Upload the files
Click Upload and pick one or more files, or drag them from your desktop anywhere onto the list. Any file type is accepted, up to 25 MB each.
Each file appears straight away as a dimmed row with a spinner and Uploading… in place of its size and date, and turns into a normal row when it finishes. If one fails, a message names that file; the others carry on.
Open a file
Click the file name. An image opens in a preview over the library — close it with the control in its top-right corner. Anything else opens in a new browser tab.
Remove a file you do not want
Hover the row and click the trash icon, then confirm in Remove this file?. The file goes for everyone on the project and cannot be brought back.
What to Watch For
Three things worth knowing early
- Pick the folder first — a file stays in the folder it was uploaded into
- Uploading a revised drawing adds a second file — it does not replace the earlier one, so name revisions clearly
- Remove is final — the file is gone for the whole project
You Are Set Up
