Filtering & Grouping Inventory

Search, filter by category, and organize your inventory view with grouping options.

Quick Summary
  • Search: Type in the search box to filter by material name
  • Category filter: Click Filter → Category → multi-select from the categories your materials actually carry (Concrete, Metals, Masonry, Finishes…)
  • Group by None: Flat list, in the order materials were added
  • Group by Category (default): Materials organized under category headers
  • Group by Unit: Materials organized under unit headers (m³, ton, m², nos, etc.)
  • Clear filters: Click Clear in the filter strip to remove all active filters

Full Guide

The search box filters your inventory by material name. Start typing and the table updates instantly:

  • Search is case-insensitive
  • Matches any part of the material name
  • Clears when you switch tabs

Category Filter

Click Filter above the table, then Category, to open the filter dropdown:

Category filter set to Metals — the header shows how many categories are selected
  • Select one or multiple categories (multi-select)
  • The options are the categories of the materials in your inventory — the construction divisions they were approved under, such as Concrete, Metals, Masonry, Finishes or Thermal & Moisture Protection. A category with no material in it is not offered
  • Active filters show as a count on the Filter button and as a chip in a strip above the table
  • Click again to add/remove categories

This is useful on large projects where you might have 50+ materials and need to focus on a specific type.

Group By

The Group button lets you organize the inventory table into sections:

None

  • Flat list, in the order materials were added to inventory
  • Best for: small inventories, searching across all materials

Category (default)

  • Materials grouped under category headers (Concrete, Metals, Masonry, etc.)
  • Each group header shows how many materials it holds
  • Best for: reviewing stock by material type, checking category-level budgets
Grouped by Category — materials organized under type headers

Unit

  • Materials grouped under unit headers (m³, ton, m², nos, etc.)
  • Best for: planning logistics (deliveries are often grouped by how materials are measured)

Combining Filters

You can combine search, category filter, and grouping:

1

Set grouping

Click Group → Category → materials organize into groups (this is how the tab opens).

2

Apply category filter

Click Filter → Category → select "Concrete" and "Metals" → only those groups remain.

3

Search within results

Type in search → further narrows within the filtered groups.

Clearing Filters

When filters are active, they show as chips in a strip above the table — remove one with its ×, or click Clear to remove them all and return to the full list. Search and grouping are independent — they need to be cleared separately.

Questions

Can I save my filters or grouping?

No. They last only while you're on the Resources page: opening a material or going elsewhere resets them. Search also clears when you switch tabs.

Can I search by spec or supplier?

No. Search matches the material name only. Use Filter → Category to narrow by type.

Can I filter the inventory by vendor?

No. Category is the only filter on the Inventory tab. To see what one vendor has supplied, open the Deliveries tab and filter by Vendor.
