Language Settings
Each person picks their language; the company and each project decide what can change; emails, notifications and the inspection PDF follow the reader.
The Construction Hub can run in your team's language. Each person picks the language they want the app in. Your company decides which settings projects and people may change, and emails, notifications and the inspection PDF reach each person in their own language.
Getting a language switched on
Languages are off until we switch one on for your company, so ask us for the ones your teams need. Until then the app is in English and shows no language settings at all: no welcome card, and no Language card on your profile, the company page or the project page.
Three settings
Every level works with the same three settings:
| Setting | What it decides |
|---|---|
| Interface | The language the app is shown in |
| Input | The language people are expected to write in |
| Output | The language PDFs, emails and notifications come out in |
They are set at three levels. The company sets each one and says whether projects and people may change it. A project changes a setting only where the company allows it. A person chooses their own Interface and Output languages only where the company, or their project, allows it; Input is set by the company and the project.
Choosing your language
Once your company has a language besides English, the dashboard greets you with Choose your language: one button per language your company has, and Not now. Pick one and the app switches to it. Not now hides the card on every device you sign in on. The language the card suggests first comes from the project site's address, or else your company's address.
You can change your choice any time on your profile. Open your account menu, choose Profile, and use the Language card:
| Row | Setting |
|---|---|
| App language | Interface |
| PDFs, emails and notifications | Output |
Each row starts on Same as the project or Same as the organization, with that language in brackets: you follow the project or the company until you pick a language of your own. A change is saved at once. A row only shows where you are allowed to choose that setting.
Right to left
In Arabic the web app reads right to left: the menu moves to the right-hand side and text runs from the right.
Your company's languages
The Language card on Settings → Company sets the company's language for Interface, Input and Output, with these switches:
| Switch | When it is on |
|---|---|
| Allow projects to change this | A project may set its own language for this setting |
| Allow people to choose their own | Each person may pick their own language for this setting. Interface and Output only |
The card has its own Save button; it is saved separately from the rest of the page. Only people whose role lets them manage the organization can change it.
A project's languages
The Language card on Settings → Project → General lists only the settings your company lets projects change. If it allows none, the card does not show. Each row starts on Same as organization; pick a language to give this project its own.
Allow people on this project to change this decides, on this project, whether people may pick their own Interface or Output language. Until you set it, the project follows the company's Allow people to choose their own. Input has no such switch: the company and the project set it.
The card has its own Save button. Only people whose role lets them update the project can change it.
If the company later stops allowing projects to change a setting, the project's language for it is set aside, not deleted: the project follows the company again, and its own choice comes back if the company allows it once more.
Writing in the project's language
When a project sets its own Input language, different from the company's, the text boxes on that project show Write in and the language under them, so everyone knows which language to use.
What follows each person's language
| What | Language it uses |
|---|---|
| The app's screens | The reader's Interface language |
| Emails, in-app notifications and phone notifications | Each recipient's Output language |
| The inspection PDF from the web app | The Output language of the person who downloads it |
| Built-in roles, workflow statuses, checklist templates and their items, permit templates, dashboard names and toolbox talk topics | The reader's Interface language, while your company has not edited them. Once edited, they show as written |
| Anything your team writes | Exactly as written. It is never translated |
Dates and numbers keep the format of your company's region whatever the language; only words such as month and day names change. Numbers always use the digits 0 to 9.
On the phone
The Construction Hub app has the same choices:
- Choose your language shows on the home screen, on the same terms as on the web.
- Your own languages are in Settings, in the Language card under Appearance.
- A project's languages are in the project settings, in the Language section: tap it to open it, then Save language. It is saved separately from the rest of the project settings.
The company's language settings are on the web only.

Questions
Why can't I see any language settings?
Your company has no language besides English switched on yet. Ask us to switch on the ones your teams need.
Why is a row missing from my Language card?
Your company, or your project, doesn't let people choose that setting. Ask whoever manages your company's settings.
Is what my team writes translated?
No. Notes, comments, names and anything else your team writes show exactly as written.
I chose Not now. How do I pick a language later?
Open your account menu, choose Profile, and use the Language card. On the phone it's in Settings.
